Glossary.
Every Catchlight word, and what it means. Each mark is the app’s own.
Angle
A different way to look at a Take, or a set of them. The Shot List and the Storyboard are both Angles, literally the same Takes seen from another angle.
Dailies
Your main timeline. Every Take in the order you had it, newest or oldest first, grouped by month. Tap a date to see just that month.
Focus-ring
The ring of Marks that opens when you tap an Iris. The quickest way to shape a Take, a checkbox, a date, an Important flag, without ever leaving the timeline.
Important
Flag as many Takes as you like as Important. Unlike the Obie, there’s no limit. Your priorities, visible at a glance and filterable in a tap.
Iris
The camera aperture on every Take. At a glance it shows what a Take is, each blade a different part, a note, a task, a reminder, lighting up as you add them. Tap it to act.
Light & Dark
Catchlight’s two looks, named the way iOS names them. Dark is a warm dark theme, Light the bright one. Switch whenever, or let it follow your phone.
Mark
Hit your Mark. Each action in the Focus-ring is a Mark. Tap one to turn a note into a reminder, add a checkbox, or make a Take Important.
Note
The simplest Take. The moment you start typing, you’re making a note. No fuss, just pure capture in the moment.
Obie
Obie that. Lift one Take above the rest as the single most important thing right now. Pinned, elevated, always in view. Long-press its Iris to set one, and there’s only ever one Obie.
Privacy Phrase
Your 12-word key. It encrypts every Take and is held only by you. There’s no account and no copy we keep, so guard it. Lose it, and anything encrypted can’t be recovered on a new device.
Reminder
Set one on any Take, at a time or a place, with or without an alarm. Nudge yourself to reread a note, or to grab the shopping list the moment you reach the shop.
Search
Two kinds. In-app search stays on your device and sends nothing anywhere. iOS Spotlight is off by default, because letting it read your Takes would break the zero-knowledge promise. Turn it on if you want, and you still choose how much of a Take it can see.
Sequence
A filtered view of your Takes. Show only Important, notes, tasks or reminders, and find the shape of thing you’re after.
Shot List
An Angle that shows a single Take as just its checklist. Bigger, calmer, easy to read at arm’s length and to reorder with a drag. A shopping list is a perfect fit.
Storyboard
An Angle that gathers every Take with a task into one view. Work through jobs that span many Takes, or use it as a simple planner or to-do list.
Take
What’s your Take? A single captured thought. A note, a task, a reminder, or any mix of the three, shaped by you and never by the app.
Task
Add a checkbox to a Take and it becomes a task. Start from a note, or make a Take that’s only a checklist. Whatever you need.
Zero-knowledge
The whole idea. Everything is encrypted on your device with a key only you hold, so we genuinely can’t read your Takes. Private by design, not by promise.
